July 3 - 17, 2000
Click on Thumbnails to view larger picture. Descriptions below fit photos from left to right.
1. La Placita Project Director, Bonnie Clark, explaining prehistoric rock art to her group of archaeological volunteers - a graphic rendition of people driving a herd of animals into a trap.
2. The animal shown with its tail up on the prehistoric rock art has evidently sprayed something noxious in Bonnie's face - or this is a good blackmail shot...
3. Bonnie & Kevin Gilmore are standing tall as they overlook Red Rock Canyon. They appear to have had a good day on 7/12/00.
4. Purgatoire River as viewed from large native american occupation site.
1. Bonnie is either being very vocal with colorful language about something or she is about ready to take flight. Kevin and Fiona are in her wake.
2. On a Sunday tour of prehistoric rock art (notice wall in background) on 7/9/00 is (front left) Juliana Vivona, Dan Trout, Pam Rasfeld, (back) Bill Carr, Charles Bowyer, Fiona Vasbinder, Kathy Corbett, Project Director Bonnie Clark, Jenny Storey, Steve Richards, and Bruce Duncan.
3. The same group as Number 2, but slightly different- Dan is smiling.
1. Juliana seems to be unaware that dinosaurs may be using this 150 million year old trail!
2. Bathing and wading in the Purgatoire River is Bruce, Juliana, Charles, Bill, Pam, Steve, Dan, Jenny and Fiona - Bonnie is walking on the water.
3. Lunch time for la Placita archaeological staff and volunteers. From the right, Charles, Pam, Bruce, Jenny, Fiona, Kathy, Dan, Juliana, Bonnie and Steve. Bill was out of the shot and Gil took the picture.
1. Two shot sequence of the west side of La Placita's eastern structures. Activities include screening by Fiona and Bill in the foreground and Charles in back. Pam and Kathy are doing graphic renditions. Dan is excavating, while Kevin and Bonnie confer.
2. Two shot sequence of the east side of La Placita structures, looking west.
1. A shot of the Red Rock Canyon country. It is easy to see where the name came from.
2. This is the Red Rock Ranch used by archeological personnel as home base. The red roofed structure in the center back is the bunkhouse from which all the good meals were generated.
3. A goodbye shot of the staff and volunteers after the last day of work on 7/15/00. From the front left is Gil, Charles, Bruce, Steve and Bill. Behind is Kathy, Dan, Jenny, Bonnie, Juliana, Pam and Fiona. The west structure provides the backdrop. The exuberant grins are a direct result of Bonnie's announcement of "COLD BEER!".
