How to change the phone number in Dial-up Networking
{short description of image}

You can change the number your computer dials simply by changing it in the "Connect To" screen when you connect (assuming you use the Dial-up Networking connection and not Internet Explorer or a third party program) however the change will not be permanent. To permanently change the phone number in a dial-up networking connection follow the steps below.

Step 1 : Double click on the "My Computer" icon .
The "My Computer" Icon is normally located in the top left hand corner of your screen. (Note: if double clicking does not work, highlight the icon by clicking on it one time then press the "ENTER" or "RETURN" key on your keyboard.)

Step 2 : Double click on the "Dial-Up Networking" icon.
If you do not see "Dial-up networking" as it is shown here you may need to install it. These screens were captured in Windows 98, 95 users will see a slightly different window.

Step 3 : Click the "right" mouse button on the connection you want to change the phone number in and a menu will appear. Click on "Properties" with the "left" mouse button.
Dial-up Networking folder. You can also highlight the connection then click on "File" > " Properties "

Step 4 : Change the phone number in the box titled "Telephone number" to the new number you want this connection to dial then click on "OK".
Unless you are dialing long distance it is a good idea to remove the check from " Use area code and Dialing Properties" Unless Train is a long distance call you can remove the check mark from "Use area code and Dialing Properties".
