The Licking area is home to some of the larger farms and cattle ranches in Missouri. Together with many smaller farms, this makes Texas County one of the leading counties in the state in beef, hay and fescue seed production. Many of the smaller farms are owned and operated by people who have employment in other endeavors or who are semi-retired. These smaller farms help provide a stable economic base for the community and give their owners much enjoyment and satisfaction along with the hard work. They also help give the area a sense of community many places have lost.
